Purpose-Driven Tomorrow: Entwining Right Intention into Intelligence

Roshan George Thomas, Director, Hilal Technology , 0

Roshan is an excellent leader with a vast business and technology background. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in driving business expansions, mentoring emerging startups, and pioneering the development and launch of AI-powered e-commerce platforms.

Being on the cutting edge of technology and creating systems for the future now requires a proactive stance to build solutions that meet the demands of tomorrow. Showcasing such stewardship is Roshan George Thomas, Director, Hilal Technology. He recently conversed with CEO Insights, narrating how he is focused on leading at the forefront and developing future-ready systems and capabilities with intelligence and purpose. Let’s dive in to learn more.

You have been instrumental in crafting digital transformation stories for many businesses? What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership does not merely account for scaling what works today. Rather, it is about providing a vision and breathing life into that vision today, not tomorrow. This entails actively practicing to create that vision for the audience we are currently facing. In my journey, I have learned that transformation is a constantly evolving process, which has expanded my learning curve into an omnidirectional perspective, both vertically and horizontally. This has allowed me to build credentials that demonstrate organic transformation to end users, providing them with insights into what tomorrow looks like. Moreover, I strive to find innovative approaches to transformation by leveraging technology as the medium to make it happen. Therefore, I believe in aligning the right intentions with capacity, integrating culture, and developing systems that can reshape industries.

How do you blend AI to shape the region’s technology landscape today?
Firstly, I consider my past experiences as a privilege and a blessing to engage in wonderful opportunities like this. Today, I continue to digitize and breathe new life into existing models, gradually modernizing them to align with a new way of thinking. I have been working with end users, social initiatives, and individuals in difficult situations, utilizing the power of digital technology and AI to address social issues. By leveraging these tools, I believe we can reimagine solutions through the lens of AI and intelligent systems. This represents a significant change. At the same time, by integrating AI with various other technologies, we continue to build innovative platforms. Together with my team, we strive to bring more predictive and behavioral intelligence with solutions ranging from simple tasks to complex problems to clients, society, friends, and family.

What are the challenges you face, and how are you navigating through these challenges?
The greatest advantage of AI is its ability to
continuously redefine the norm. Implementing AI at scale not only presents technical challenges but also necessitates the inclusion of ethical guidelines alongside technical aspects.

The team supporting me on this journey is now developing AI with ethical guardrails to ensure its safety for future generations. It is crucial to ask whether it is safe for our children and society at large. As we are entering a synthetic society, this calls for prioritizing transparency, inclusion, and clarity in how AI operates. The risks involved in our journey are significant. But with proper planning and awareness of issues such as algorithmic bias in AI, data sovereignty, and ethical considerations, we can establish the necessary guardrails for future generations to navigate this path responsibly. I consistently advised my team to implement these guardrails by ensuring our systems are sentient and governed by human oversight.

I advocate for a future where digital surrogacy becomes prevalent, which allows people to select an AI model to work on our behalf, and this reality is not far off.

What approach have you adopted to encourage your team to build resilient systems?
When I refer to "human in the loop," I mean that the governance around my models is aimed at developing systems with autonomy. These systems can operate independently, and they represent the next stage of generative AI. This multi-layered approach allows us to either enhance our capabilities or mitigate challenges, all while emphasizing the importance of human input in this process. It's crucial to prioritize ethics and establish guardrails to ensure true digital trust in AI as we move forward. Resilient systems constructed with these principles will significantly influence how we live and coexist with AI-powered entities, ensuring they are developed ethically and responsibly.

How do you perceive the transformation of the tech landscape going forward?
We are entering, or perhaps we have already entered, a synthetic decade. We are gradually moving into the second stage of the technological singularity. This means that the presence of artificially powered beings will increase, leading us toward a synthetic future. As aforementioned, we are facing a synthetic decade ahead, marked by the convergence of AI and humanity.

Many developments, such as autonomous systems, will gradually start to emerge. Therefore, I advocate for a future where digital surrogacy becomes prevalent, which allows people to select an AI model to work on our behalf, and this reality is not far off. Moreover, this advancement will allow us to redefine how we live, learn, and lead. I see immense opportunities in anticipatory intelligence and infrastructure. As AI autonomy expands, there will be a significant surge in anticipatory intelligence infrastructure. This means that with the rise of autonomous AI, we will be able to predict future events more effectively. As a result, it could lead to substantial business growth as we move further into what I call the synthetic decade.
