Dr. Surindher D.S.A
Founder & Director And Chief Plastic Surgeon
In aesthetic surgery particularly, technical skill must be balanced with an understanding of proportion, anatomy and natural outcomes. In reconstructive care, the surgeon’s contri-bution extends to restoring function and appearance following trauma, burns, cancer or congenital conditions.
As the clinical lead, a Chief Plastic Surgeon also helps establish treatment protocols, adopt relevant technologies, mentor younger practitioners and uphold consistent standards across the patient journey.
Bringing more than two decades of experience to this responsibility is Dr. Surindher D.S.A., Founder & Director/ Chief Plastic Surgeon at Aesthetics Plus. He completed his plastic surgery training in 2001 at Christian Medical College, one of India’s premier institutions in the discipline, where he gained extensive exposure to reconstructive surgery encompassing trauma, burns, cancer reconstruction and complex surgical cases.
His professional journey subsequently highlighted an important gap. While institutional training offered a strong foundation in reconstruction, aesthetic surgery had comparatively limited representation, largely because cosmetic patients rarely approached teaching hospitals. Developing expertise therefore required continued learning through exposure to experienced aesthetic surgeons and specialised practices.
Recognising the need for a dedicated aesthetic environment, Dr. Surindher established Aesthetics Plus in Bangalore in 2003, when independent aesthetic surgery practices were still uncommon, particularly in South India. The centre was designed around the distinct expectations of aesthetic patients rather than positioning cosmetic care as an extension of conventional hospital practice.
Bangalore’s growing international profile also brought patients from overseas, and Aesthetics Plus has since treated individuals from approximately 80 countries - an exposure that continues to shape the organisation’s emphasis on internationally aligned standards of care and patient experience.
How have your experiences across clinical practice aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, and international healthcare shaped your approach to patient care and leadership?
One of the biggest changes I have witnessed is the convergence of aesthetics and reconstruction.Earlier, reconstructive surgery primarily focused on restoring function; today, appearance and quality of life are equally important. Whether reconstructing a breast after cancer surgery or rebuilding a jaw, the objective is to restore both function and a near-natural appearance.
My international exposure has also shaped my approach. Incorporating Australian standards at Aesthetics Plus and practising in both Bangalore and the UAE have strengthened our focus on privacy, communi- cation, recovery and the complete patient experience. These experiences have reinforced my belief that India can deliver truly world-class healthcare.
Which professional mile- stones have had the greatest influence on your growth as a surgeon and leader?
Establishing Aesthetics Plus in 2003, when dedicated aesthetic practices were still uncommon in India, has been one of my most significant milestones. Building the practice for over two decades has taught me continuously about surgery, patient experience and leadership.
Training younger plastic surgeons has been equally meaningful, particularly because conventional medical training offers limited exposure to aesthetic procedures. More recently, I recognised another gap: doctors are trained in medicine but rarely in business.
This led me to study business management and eventually establish PractElevate, through which I help doctors build structured and sustainable practices. My philosophy remains simple: continuously improve on what we did yesterday.
How has your vision for Aesthetics Plus evolved, and what has contributed most significantly to its growth?
I founded Aesthetics Plus because aesthetic patients have requirements that differ considerably from conventional hospital patients. They value privacy, confidentiality, persona- lised attention, minimal downtime and discretion.
We therefore built the practice around the complete patient experience rather than surgery alone. Over the years, we have refined techniques, reduced recovery periods and focused on minimising visible scars wherever clinically appropriate.

Our vision has since expanded into training younger practitioners and helping doctors understand healthcare business through PractElevate. However, our fundamental principle remains unchanged: patient safety comes first. If a procedure is unnecessary or inappropriate, I will refuse it, even if that means losing the patient.
How have you adapted to advances in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery while maintaining safety, ethics and natural outcomes?
Surgery has moved significantly towards reducing trauma, scarring and recovery time. Today, suitable patients may undergo closed rhinoplasty, smaller incisions for breast augmentation, smaller-cannula liposuction or shorterscar facial procedures. This is particularly important for Indian skin, where scars can become more noticeable because of pigmentation.
Whenever I evaluate an innovation, I ask three questions: does it solve the patient’s problem, reduce surgery or scarring, and enable faster recovery? Technology such as lasers, J-Plasma, advanced microscopes, Botox and fillers has certainly expanded our capabilities. However, techno- logy cannot replace surgical judgement. The fundamentals - anatomy, technique, experience and under standing what is realistically achievable - must always come first.
What is your vision for the next phase of Aesthetics Plus and your professional journey?
My vision is to expand Aesthetics Plus responsibly by collaborating with like-minded plastic surgeons while protecting the standards we have developed over more than two decades. Rather than simply creating franchises, we want to provide surgeons with a proven platform, mentor -ship and systems that help them build successful centres.
PractElevate is another important part of this journey. Over the next few years, our aim is to support approximately 1,500–2,000 doctors and healthcare centres in becoming structured, inde- pendently managed and profitable.
Ultimately, I want doctors to practise excellent medicine while building sustainable organi- sations that deliver better patient experiences and give practitioners more time for professional growth and family.
