Dr. Pravin Borase

Founder & Head of R&D

A molecule is synthesized exclusively for a specific client according to their specifications at their scale in the custom synthesis procedure. It is one of the solutions offered to pharmaceutical businesses in need of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), intermediates and agrochemicals, fine chemicals, reference standards, impurities or metabolites in order to start their research and development initiatives. With a vision to meet the client's demands by providing strategically specialized products through technological advancements, Pravin Borase established Photon Chemicals, a firm that deals in the Custom synthesis of chemicals.

A forward-thinking firm, Photon Chemicals thrives on strong research and development staff dedicated to developing environment friendly and sustainable production processes. It has a strategy customer-centric module in place to meet client demands for specialized products, technology, and process development.

The firm is led by Pravin, who is a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Mumbai's prestigious Institute of Chemical Technology and holds twelve years of expertise in industrial re-search. Apart from educational qualifications, Dr. Pravin holds specialization in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, functional fluorescent colorimetric dyes, supramolecular host guest chemistry, ionic liquids and catalysis for diverse chemical transformations. Before Photon Chemicals, he also worked on the development of nano catalysts and functionalized fluorescence probes for biological and trace metal investigation.

Dr. Pravin recently engaged in an exclusive interaction with CEOInsights, here's the highlights from the same.

Tell us about your educational and professional journey. what motivated you to venture into the chemical industry?
My academic credentials includes a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Mumbai's
Institute of Chemical Technology with twelve years of expertise in industrial research. I specialize in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, functional fluorescent colorimetric dyes, supra molecular host guest chemistry, ionic liquids, and catalysis for diverse chemical transformations. In addition, I've worked on the development of nano catalysts and functionalized fluorescence probes for biological and trace metal investigation.

I follow the participating way of leadership approach, where we involve team members in the decision-making process. This would probably result in more involvement from team members, focus on work, and motivation

My enthusiasm for study piqued my interest in generating fresh techniques for intriguing compounds. I've always wanted to start a business where I could use my love for innovation and research and development. Such was my drive to start a business and produce a specialty product while still providing exceptional service.

What are the latest sustainable technologies adopted by the company? What are the future opportunities you foresee in the chemical industry?
We developed the technology for bromination of organic and inorganic compounds at Photon Chemicals. One of them was created inhouse technology to produce hydrogen bromide gas continuously. A commercial production pilot unit has also been established to produce the 4MT per month capacity. In the coming financial year, Photon Chemicals plans to enhance its manufacturing capacity, to produce 40 MT per month.

The future looks bright for specialty chemicals, particularly in India, where companies are looking for alternatives to China chemicals. We already have the technology in place for such substances. Furthermore, we are in the process of establishing our new manufacturing facility, which will be dedicated solely to the production of these products.

What has been your mantra for success? What are the guidelines you follow to lead your team?
Our path to success is as
straight forward as the premise that we pursue continual improvement. Staying faithful to our ideals of integrity, excellence, and devotion is our success motto.

I use a participative leadership method, in which team members are involved in the decision making process. This would most likely result in more team participation and a greater focus on work and motivation. As a result, we've seen an improvement in production.

As a business leader, what advice you would like to give to future leaders who are aspiring to achieve big in this field?
My advice to them is to keep things basic and honest. Examine the market demands in the area where you plan to launch your business and try to address the gaps.
