Praveena Bhimavarapu
SVP & Country Head
Their role has evolved far beyond administration, making them central to how organizations navigate growth, technological disruption, and workforce transformation. One such inspiring leader is Praveena Bhimavarapu, who currently serves as SVP and Country Head at Maximus India. With nearly three decades of experience, her professional journey reflects continuous growth, adaptability, and determination.
Praveena describes her career in three distinct phases. The first phase focused on building her foundation in IT after completing her engineering degree in India and moving to the United States, where she began her career shortly after relocating. Those formative years helped her under -stand the technology landscape and establish herself in the industry.
The second phase centered around strengthening her technical and leadership capabilities through diverse roles across multinational organizations. Over time, she evolved from an engineer and developer into leadership positions that gave her deeper exposure to the complexities of the IT industry.
Her most transformative phase came between 2014 and 2024, when her career accelerated significantly. During this period, she progressed from Associate Vice President to Vice President, later becoming Managing Director and eventually Country Head and CEO.
Despite balancing family responsibilities, raising two children, and relocating back to India in 2008, she continued to
grow through resilience adaptability, and a strong commitment to continuous learning - qualities that continue to define her leadership journey today.
How have you balanced empowerment with perfor- mance accountability throughout your leadership journey?
For me, balancing empowerment with account ability began with one conscious decision early in my career - I would not quit, regardless of the challenges life brought my way.
As I navigated professional growth along side personal responsibilities, I learned the importance of building strong support systems and asking for help when ever needed. I believe true empowerment comes from within.
I have always focused on self-reflection, continuous improve- ment, and taking ownership of my own growth rather than waiting for external validation. At the same time, leadership naturally demands accountability.
When you are responsible for business outcomes, culture, and people, performance becomes non-negotiable. I strongly believe that if we dedicate so much of our time to work, it should be meaningful, impactful, and contribute to both personal and organizational growth.
How can GCCs evolve from cost focused centers into innovation-driven transfor -mation hubs?
I believe GCCs must first recognize that they are capable of far more than cost arbitrage. India is a global talent hub, and we need to confidently position ourselves as strategic innovation partners. I encourage leaders to proactively seek larger responsibilities, transformation initiatives, and business-critical opportunities.
At the same time, it is equally important to say no to outdated operating models or low-value work that does not create meaningful enterprise impact. For me, the real shift happens when GCCs adopt an enterprise mindset - focusing not just on internal efficiency, but also on customer outcomes, employee experience, shareholder value, and long-term innovation. That is how GCCs truly become transformation hubs.

One of my biggest strengths is staying curious and open-minded, I learn from people, books, podcasts, and everyday experi- ences

How would you describe your leadership style and the principles that guide you as a leader?
I would describe my leadership style as empathetic, people-centric, and continuously evolving. I strongly believe in understanding situations from other people’s perspectives before making decisions. Over the years, my leadership approach has grown through experiences, challenges, and constant learning.
One of my biggest strengths is staying curious and openminded, I learn from people, books, podcasts, and everyday experiences. I also believe that strong teams are built on trust, openness, and mutual respect, which is why I encourage people to share ideas freely without fear of judgment. In recent years, I have focused more on self-awareness, emotional intelli- gence, and improving my own habits and mindset as a leader.
What future goals and leadership advice define your vision going forward?
I am not driven by a specific title or destination; instead I focus on continuous learning, growth, and meaningful contribution. One area I feel strongly about is encouraging more women to continue their professional journeys with confidence and resilience. Through my own experiences balancing career and family, I have learned valuable coping mechanisms that I hope others can benefit from as well.
At the same time, I remain open to larger opportunities and broader impact. My advice to aspiring leaders is to stay authentic, adaptable, and curious. In today’s rapidly changing world, adapt ability quotient is just as important as intelligence or experience. I believe true leadership comes from continuous learning, embracing change, and taking consistent small steps toward long-term growth.
