Rahul Gupta, CEORegarded as one of the core industries in India, that drives the development of the country, the Oil and Gas sector plays a foremost role in influencing decision-making for all the other significant sections of the economy. India’s economic growth is pragmatically associated with its energy demand, and the requirement for oil and gas is estimated to grow more, thereby making the sector quite advantageous for investment. Venturing into this lucrative segment after completing his graduation from IIT Roorkee, Rahul Gupta (CEO, WellRx Technologies) holds more than 15 years of experience in the oilfield industry.

Having worked in the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and North Africa regions, Rahul is leveraging his skills and expertise to devise phenomenal growth strategies for his current organization WellRx Technologies. When asked about what drives him as a new-age leader of this magnanimous industry, Rahul gladly avers, “My experience in the oilfield has always been a thrill for me and the exposure associated with this industry which is only second to the military exposure, inspires me to move forward.” Rahul believes in leading a simple yet straight forward life to keep things very less complex. Implementing the same, simple yet effective leadership strategies across his decisions, Rahul is navigating WellRx Technologies to greater summits.

Define WellRx Technologies as an organization and its position in the industry? What are the company’s greatest strengths and unique propositions that it offers to its clients?
WellRx is regarded as India’s first true oilfield Startup in downhole technologies. Our greatest strengths lie in the state-of-the-art technologies developed by us which
are currently not owned by even the top oilfield technology companies. These technologies bring a lot of optimizations, cost savings and enhanced products to Oil and Gas E&P companies. Apart from that, the leadership team of WellRx holds very high competency and experience. The perfect amalgamation of our advanced technologies along with our highly skilled resources enables us to emerge as a significant brand in this domain.

Reflect on some of the major challenges you have experienced in your journey so far? How did you overcome them and what did you learn from them?
One of the major challenges is convincing the Oil and Gas E&P Companies about the novel and innovative technologies currently reigning in this segment. The oilfield industry has always been a bit rigid in its ways, and therefore, Startups like us have to go through a tough cycle to get the acceptance of their disruptive technologies. This rigidity is also not without a cause, because the financial, safety and environmental costs are enormous for this particular industry. If anything goes wrong, it will cause massive losses, especially for a country like India which is importing 90 percent of its crude oil and the present cost of oil is above $ 100/barrel. This has been our biggest learning curve and we constantly evolve our methods to make it more seamless.

What has been the success mantra that constantly helps you arrive at positive outcomes?
Delivering effective results to the customers is the ultimate satisfaction a Startup can get and when it has a direct bearing on country’s forex, the success becomes manifold. Even if we can help reduce 1 percent of crude oil import bill for India, that will amount to 700cr saving of India’s forex reserves in one year. Implementing our advanced technologies to craft
benevolent outcomes for our company and the same time working towards the progress of our country is what drives us to move ahead.

In your professional journey so far, which are the milestones that bestowed you with utmost satisfaction - both as an individual and as an industry leader?
Starting from the field days till today, professional satisfaction has always come from seeing the expansion of the company. Whether it was leading the business vertical in my previous ventures, or currently functioning as the CEO in a Start-up, where we started from zero and have come a long way since then; in professional life, I have always focused on developing the team, succession plan, training, and ensuring real-world exposure of people working with me. It gives me immense pleasure to see them now grown and established at various highlevel positions in the oilfield industry.

Based on your strong professional experience, what advice would you give to the upcoming leaders in the same industry
I would advise them to have patience and perseverance. This is not the industry that can bring you overnight results as the stakes are high. With strong determination and steady steps, you can achieve your goals gradually.
