Director

To keep their employees on top of their game, many organizations hire Learning and Development (L&D) partners. This is especially important in not just the IT industry but also the FMCG, Manufacturing, Retail, Fashion, Logistics & Beverage among other industries, where tools, skills and techniques like artificial intelligence vs Emotional intelligence, machine learning vs people learning, and analytics vs creativity are constantly updated.

Companies are encouraging employees to reskill, upskill and re-innovate to not only reduce attrition but also to provide them with the most up-to-date information, competencies & skills needed to succeed.

Rohan Kristoph Chinniah established Gakushu in 2016 with the sole intention of delivering a high energy and interactive trainer facilitator experience that allows businesses to develop strong capabilities through a unique blend of classroom, outbound, Socratic, and even Wildlife Outbound experiences.

CEO Insights interviewed Rohan Kristoph Chinniah (Director) of Gakushu Training & Consulting, wherein he enlightened us about his entrepreneurial path towards being a Leader in the L&D Sector.

Tell us about the inspiration that drove the inception of Gakushu Training & Consulting and the significance of its unique name.
Gakushu Training and Consultancy was founded on the premise of preserving and continuing the purity of learning & development. ‘Gakushu’ means 'to learn something new' in Japanese. Our company logo depicts three major aspects of what we do in not just L&D spaces, but also in life. The first element is the Samurai Sword which signifies Discipline in everything we do. The next element is the Frangipani Tree, which speaks of and depicts life's beauty and the third element is the Enzo Circle, which is the circle of life & which depicts the philosophy with which we approach everything. This philosophy facilitates our keeping well within the domain of excellence and not slipping into mediocrity even under the most challenging of circumstances.

What initial challenges did you encounter during your entrepreneurial journey and how did you reach the ladder of success at a later stage?
Gakushu Training and Consulting was established almost 6 years ago. At first, the biggest challenge we faced was convincing clients to trust our ability to deliver on our unique blend of learning & people skills which is our recipe to creating a perfect end-to-end solution. Once we got hold of the right opportunities, our clients experienced our flexibility in terms
of world-class design and delivery, the rest is history. Our capacity and endeavor to always exceed people's expectations has now become our USP, with our clientele knowing that whatever may be the case, we will deliver a world class learning experience. Additionally, meeting and resolving exigencies on-the-spot seamlessly has consistently been our strength.

At gakushu, we believe in continuous innovation. My background enables me to look at clients' needs from a variety of perspectives and then develop innovative end-to-end solutions

Having experience of more than 20 years across the L&D domain, how are you leveraging your expertise to craft innovative solutions for Gakushu?
At Gakushu, we believe in continuous innovation. My background enables me to look at clients' needs from a variety of perspectives and then develop innovative end-to-end solutions. From concept to design, delivery and execution, including pre and post-interventions I always give it that personal touch to ensure the end-user experience comes full circle. I work closely with internal teams to produce the best results & my role also includes a significant amount of business development with a focus on creating a strong network. While my team handles the critical back-end processes and requirements, I encourage them to form their own network of key players from across industries which enables them to expand their horizons, grow as individuals, learn new skills and best practices, develop their business acumen and be able to build good working relationships. Our experience in the live world scenario helped us to slip easily into the digital world of training while continuing to maintain excellence.

What major roles and responsibilities are you currently undertaking at Gakushu Training & Consulting at present?
As the Managing Partner of Gakushu, the most important aspect of driving the company's mission and vision is keeping the needs of the client at the forefront of all our choices and personalizing learning interventions around them. We have always specialized in bespoke solutions and are constantly open to new or better ideas, which may be used to efficiently meet the client's requirements, as well as Gakushu's short and long-term demands. Our core drivers are Continuous Improvement, Learning and Innovation. They push and inspire my team to focus on delivery rather than just the reward.

How do you align your organization with your vision and mission, and what are the key drivers you utilize to guarantee that the company's services are used effectively to satisfy their needs?
It's all about how we come together in terms of what we want to accomplish as a company. Within Gakushu, it is more important for everyone to work together & harness their individual talent, rather than just focusing on their jobs. Tailor-making content and engineering delivery techniques to suit each
making content and engineering delivery techniques to suit each client has been our passion. So, if you ask any of our team members or even our clients, they will tell you that Gakushu is more like a family than simply just another company. It is my belief that the personal touch we provide al our projects is what sets us apart from the competition.

Explain the unique aspects that drives your company on a distinct path when compared to peers?
The fact that all of our learning solutions are customized and adapted not only for the needs of the organization and the business but also for each participant, is, in my opinion, our strongest offering. Yes, we do maintain contact with folks long after the session has ended; & for them to then mention historical learnings is incredibly invaluable to us. We aim to master the art of transferring knowledge through workshops that we conduct, and we take pride in not sacrificing the quality of our output, which we ultimately supply to our clients under all circumstances. Our attention to detail, even the tiniest of ones, continues to impress everyone we work with.

In your journey so far, which are the milestones that bestowed you with utmost satisfaction - both as an individual and a Director?
As the company director, I believe in getting Gakushu off the ground with the distinguished clientele that we have and building the right relationships. Moreover, gathering a team of people who work with us across different models, who are so passionate about not only their personal vison but also the vision of Gakushu, has by far been a unique method and these have all been milestones that have been extremely satisfying for me. The continuous trajectory of growth that we have maintained in terms of enhancing training content, methods and delivery through our L&D path have given us rolling milestones all through the way.

Being an expert in this domain what message would you like to give to the aspiring entrepreneurs who want to venture into this niche domain? Also, impart your wisdom on living a worthwhile life.
Don't give up. So, if you're starting anything from scratch, stay active, persistent, adaptable, and flexible. Always keep the participant in mind, not just the client because your participants will ultimately determine your success, not your overall clientele. Everything we do is driven by our organization's motto: "Perfect and master the craft, and the rewards and laurels will follow."

It simply doesn't work the other way around. Always keep excellence in content design and superlative attitude in delivery as your company hallmarks. This is what got us to where we are today.
