As an alumnus of IIM Calcutta, what have been the most transformative learning experiences for you, and is there a particular memory that stands out from your time there?
I completed my MBA from the School of Management Studies at Cochin University of Science & Technology. Much later, during my tenure as CEO of Binani Zinc Ltd., I had the opportunity to attend the Business Leaders Program at IIM Calcutta. That experience proved to be profoundly transformative, broadening my outlook and enabling me to view a business holistically, with a long-term perspective that extends beyond day-to-day operations.
Among the many takeaways, what stands out the most were the sessions designed around live business cases rather than conventional academic discussions. These interactive sessions challenged us to apply strategic thinking to real-world scenarios, encouraging practical problem-solving, critical analysis, and collaborative decision-making.
The combination of rigorous business frameworks and hands-on learning not only reinforced my managerial skills but also shaped my approach to leadership. The exposure helped me understand the intricate dynamics of running complex organizations and left an enduring impact on how I navigate business challenges today.
How has your time at the institute fostered your entrepreneurial spirit and honed your business acumen?
Although my career was largely in corporate leadership rather than starting my own venture, leading businesses across various industries allowed me to adopt an entrepreneurial perspective and approach challenges accordingly. The institute played a key role in developing this mindset, helping me cultivate the ability to think creatively, make strategic decisions, and tackle complex business situations with the insight and initiative characteristic of an entrepreneur.
How would you describe the approach ability and accessibility of the faculty during your time at IIM Calcutta?

How have you engaged with and benefited from the alumni network during your time as a student and in the years following graduation?
My batchmates were accom-plished CEOs, CXOs, and business owners, creating a strong peer network. The connections we built during the program have remained active over the years, providing valuable opportunities for collaboration, exchange of ideas, and professional support well beyond our time at the institute.
How would you describe your leadership style, and how does it align with your future professional goals?
My leadership style is centered on building strong teams, empowering the right people, and fostering a trust-based environment where individuals can operate with confidence and accountability. I believe in creating space for talent to thrive, enabling collective strength to drive meaningful outcomes. Currently, I am engaged as an advisor to several companies in the chemical industry, guiding them in configuring new projects and evaluating technologies. Alongside, I offer business strategy consulting to mid-sized firms. My vision is to scale these advisory and consulting engagements further, both in scope and reach, while continuing to lead with a philosophy that blends trust, empowerment, and strategic clarity.
Drawing from your extensive industry experience, what guidance would you offer to emerging leaders seeking to make their mark in the field?
Drawing from real-world experience in leading and running businesses, I believe effective leadership is guided by a few fundamental principles. First, leaders must walk the talk because credibility remains their most powerful asset. Second, when faced with difficult choices, it is essential to prioritize what serves the larger interest and stands the test of time. Finally, when venturing into new initiatives such as projects or business expansions, one must remember that direction matters far more than speed, as it shapes the long-term impact of every decision.
