As Head of HR, IR & Administration, Sunil oversees talent acquisition, organi -zational development, policy design, and employee relations across PMT Machines’ manufac -turing units. Working closely with plant heads and line managers, he strengthens employee-employer relationships through collaboration, negotiation, and strategic guidance. His commitment to creating inclusive, compliant, and high-performing workplaces continues to support PMT Machines’ growth while fostering a culture where people and performance thrive together. Let’s read on.
In a manufacturing-driven organization like PMT Machines, how do you define the strategic role of HR beyond traditional hiring and employee management?
I believe HR in a manufacturing organi -zation must function as a strategic business partner rather than an admini -strative support function. At PMT Machines, my role goes beyond hiring and
employee management to directly support operational efficiency, business conti -nuity, and risk mitigation.
I focus on maximizing shop-floor producti - vity through effective workforce planning, stren- gthening industrial relations, ensuring statutory compliance and building a sustainable talent pipeline. HR also plays a critical role in crisis management and rapid response to disruptions. By aligning people strategies with production goals, I help drive operational resilience, financial efficiency and long-term organi- zational growth.
How do you see the evolving talent and workforce landscape in India’s industrial machinery and manufacturing sector?
India’s manufacturing sector is undergoing a significant transformation driven by automation, digitalization, and government initiatives such as the PLI scheme. I see increasing demand for professionals who combine strong mechanical expertise with digital proficiency. However, challenges such as skill shortages, the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, and workforce adaptability remain significant.
Organizations must invest in continuous upskilling, predictive workforce planning, and stronger compliance systems. In my view, the future workforce will need to be agile, technology enabled, and open to continuous learning to thrive in increasingly smart and connected manufacturing environments.
What are the key HR strategies you implement to ensure alignment between workforce capability, production efficiency, and organizational growth?
I focus on aligning workforce capability directly with business and production objectives. To achieve this, I implement dynamic skill matrices and cross training initiatives that improve workforce flexibility and operational continuity.
I also build strong talent pipelines through partnerships with technical institutions and structured trainee programs. Productivity-linked policies and incentive frameworks help drive performance while maintaining employee engagement.
Equally important is maintaining direct engagement with employees on the shop floor, enabling faster issue resolution and stronger workforce trust. These strategies help ensure productivity, reduce operational disruptions, and support sustainable organizational growth.

In a skill-intensive industry like machine tools manufacturing, how do you attract, train, and retain skilled technical talent?
I believe attracting skilled talent starts with changing perceptions about manu -facturing careers. Today’s workforce wants meaningful growth, technology exposure, and long-term oppo- rtunities.
To address this, I focus on showcasing manufacturing as a modern, innovation-driven industry. Training is equally important, so I emphasize structured learning programs that build internal capabilities and ensure consistent quality standards.
For retention, I focus on creating a balance between competitive compensation, career progre- ssion, skill development, and a positive workplace culture.
My goal is to ensure employees see long-term value and growth opportunities within the organization rather than seeking short-term alternatives else where.
Looking ahead, how do you envision the HR function evolving at PMT Machines, and what is your long-term vision for building a future-ready industrial workforce?
I see HR evolving from a compliance -focused function into a proactive business partner that drives strategic outcomes. My vision is to leverage advanced HR analy-tics to predict attrition, identify skill gaps, and optimize workforce planning before challenges impact operations.
I also aim to strengthen digital inte -gration across floor management, shift planning, and employee communication. Encouraging multiskilling and continuous learning will help create a more agile workforce capable of adapting to changing business needs.
Ultimately, my goal is to position PMT Machines as an employer of choice where technology, innovation and human potential grow together.
