Sourab Kumar Jha
Chartered Accountant & Chief Financial Officer
A Chartered Accountant who qualified in 2008, Sourab began his career with SPML Infra Limited, where he was entrusted with indirect taxation responsibilities. During his tenure, he successfully resolved a significant tax-related challenge, earning both confidence and recognition early in his career.
Driven by a desire to expand his pro -fessional capabilities and take on broader business responsibilities, Sourab chose to pursue an opportunity that offered greater cross-functional exposure and leadership involvement. Rather than focusing solely on financial rewards, he sought a role where he could contribute across diverse business functions while accelerating his professional growth.
Guided by experienced organizational leadership and mentors, he gained exposure to multiple facets of the business, including supply chain management, procurement, project execution, marketing, and finance. This multidisciplinary experience enabled him to develop into a well-rounded techno-commercial leader with a comprehensive understanding of business operations.
Over the years, Sourab assumed several key responsibilities, including project management for transmission projects, before being appointed CFO. As part of BTL EPC's leadership team, he has contributed significantly to the company's impressive growth journey, helping it expand from approximately ₹250 crore to over ₹1,100 crore in revenue over the past five to six years.
diversified EPC player. What strategic and financial factors have driven this evolution?
The transformation of BTL EPC has been guided by a clear
vision from our leadership. Rather than expanding into unrelated sectors, we focused on EPC businesses that comple -mented our core engineering and manu -facturing strengths.
Today, our five manufacturing facilities work in close alignment with our EPC operations, creating strong operational synergies. This integrated approach has improved efficiency, strengthened execution capabilities, and differentiated us in the market.
By building on our existing competencies, we have been able to scale sustainably while maintaining a competitive edge across industries.
How do you assess and select new growth opportunities across sectors such as mining, power, steel, chemicals, and environmental management?
Whenever we evaluate a new opportunity, I focus on three key factors: business synergy, cash flow potential and customer credibility. We prefer sectors where our existing expertise, engineering capabi-lities, and manufacturing infrastructure can be effectively utilized. For instance, our work in mining aligns naturally with our experience in conveyor systems and material handling solutions.
We also prioritize working with established and financially strong clients. Our philo -sophy is simple - expand into areas where we can create value through our strengths rather than diversifying into completely unfamiliar businesses.
In a volatile market environment, how do you safeguard project profit- ability against fluctu- ations in raw material and commodity prices?
For me, profitability management begins at the estimation stage itself. We carefully assess raw material costs forecast potential price movements, and incorporate those insights into our bids. For out sourced components, we secure price -validity commitments from vendors wherever possible.
In projects exposed to significant commodity fluctuations, we negotiate price escalation clauses to protect margins.
Additionally, our extensive database of past projects and execution experience helps us anticipate risks and make informed decisions. These practices allow us to manage uncertainties effectively while maintaining profitability targets.

With the availability of digital platforms and AI-powered resources, infor -mation is more accessible than ever. The key is maintaining curiosity and making learning a consistent habit.
