Separator

Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd, a leading Indian retailer, has announced a joint venture with Mothercare plc. Through Reliance Brands Holding UK Limited (RBL UK), a subsidiary of Reliance Brands Limited, this partnership will oversee the Mothercare brand and its intellectual property across India and neighboring regions, including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. The collaboration focuses on providing products for parents and young children.

RBL UK will hold a 51% stake in this joint venture, while Mothercare Global Brand Limited will maintain the remaining 49%. The acquisition of this stake by RBL UK involves a cash payment of 16 million British pounds. This partnership aims to serve as the franchisor for the Mothercare brand in these South Asian markets, creating new growth opportunities by combining the strengths of both companies.

Reliance Brands' Managing Director expressed enthusiasm about this new phase in their partnership with Mothercare. "Mothercare has been a trusted name for parents in India for years, and this joint venture marks an exciting new chapter in our partnership", said Mehta. He is optimistic about expanding the brand's presence across South Asia through this collaboration. Reliance Brands initially acquired the rights to operate the UK-based Mothercare brand in India back in 2018. Since then, they have established 87 stores across 25 cities and have a significant presence on e-commerce platforms. This new agreement is expected to further strengthen their operations and expand their reach.

Clive Whiley, Chairman of Mothercare, highlighted the importance of this agreement for their operations in South Asia. "Today's agreement strengthens our operations in South Asia through an even closer working relationship with Reliance, our existing valued franchise partner, and underlines the intrinsic value of the Mothercare brand strength", he stated. This partnership is seen as a strategic move to enhance their market position.

The joint venture between Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd and Mothercare plc marks a major milestone for both companies. By leveraging their respective strengths, they aim to unlock new growth opportunities and expand their presence in key South Asian markets. This partnership is expected to enhance their regional positions and benefit both parties.
