Bharat Forge to Build Marine Gas Turbine Facility in Andhra

Bharat Forge plans to establish India's inaugural private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) repair, refurbishment, and indigenous development facility in Visakhapatnam.
“Bharat Forge, via its Aerospace division, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to set up the first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) Repair, Overhaul, and indigenous Development facility in Visakhapatnam,” according to the company.

The initiative will span nearly 80 acres within the Defence Manufacturing Corridor of Andhra Pradesh.
Gas turbines serve as the main propulsion system for the Indian Navy’s surface combatants on the front lines. In recent years, the international supply chain for these engines has faced significant disruptions, directly affecting fleet R&O cycles and operational readiness.
The facility in Visakhapatnam will be situated close to the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters. Bharat Forge stated that the initiative will introduce essential marine propulsion sustainment expertise into India's private sector for the first time.

During the initial stage, the firm will establish a facility for the repair and overhaul of marine gas turbines.
The facility will perform hot section refurbishment of blades, vanes, and combustion liners, in addition to component production and non-destructive evaluation (NDE) testing.
It will additionally offer a 72-hour response time for the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
In the next phase, Bharat Forge intends to establish India’s inaugural private-sector Marine Gas Turbine Development and Assembly Hall. The center will feature a hot test cell capable of accommodating various propulsion ratings and will aim to develop and qualify an indigenous marine gas turbine in India for the very first time.

The firm stated that the facility will serve as a regional repair and maintenance center for the navies of allied nations and is anticipated to create approximately 750 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
