Yuma Energy Installs Battery Stations Across Mumbai Metro Line 3

Yuma Energy, a company specializing in providing battery-as-a-service, has entered into an agreement with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) to establish 22 battery swapping stations spanning nine locations along Metro Line 3.
The stations are designed to cater to users of electric two-wheelers, such as gig economy workers, delivery personnel, and daily commuters, enabling them to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones without the need for waiting to recharge.

Presently, Yuma manages a fleet of over 13,000 vehicles in Mumbai and facilitates in excess of 20,000 battery swaps each day through its established network.
This collaboration is organized under the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation's (MMRC) Non-Fare Box Revenue (NFBR) initiative, which enables the corporation to generate income from station infrastructure beyond ticket sales.
By integrating swapping stations within the metro facilities, MMRC is strategically positioning these services as supplementary options that connect electric two-wheeler transportation with public rail transit.
Muthu Subramanian, the General Manager and Managing Director of Yuma Energy, stated that the substantial passenger traffic on Metro Line 3 presents a strategic opportunity to enhance network density and position energy infrastructure in proximity to where it is most required by commuters.

R. Ramana, the Director of Planning and Real Estate Development at MMRC, remarked that the collaboration aligns with the corporation's broader initiative to promote cleaner urban transportation alternatives.
The enlargement of infrastructure coincides with the increasing endeavors by Indian cities to enhance their electric vehicle charging and battery swapping capabilities, specifically to facilitate the electrification of two-wheelers. This effort is particularly directed at benefiting gig economy workers who depend on uninterrupted operational availability.
Battery swapping, which alleviates the issue of prolonged charging durations by allowing the quick replacement of a depleted battery with a fully charged unit within mere minutes, has seen rising popularity within this demographic.
