Indonesian FM Sugiono Arrives in India for BRICS Meeting

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has arrived in the nation's capital to take part in the forthcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
In a statement shared on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) extended a “cordial welcome” to the visiting dignitary.

“A warm welcome to Foreign Minister Sugiono of Indonesia on his arrival in New Delhi for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting,” according to MEA’s post.
Over the upcoming days, India is poised to become a focal point for international interactions, as foreign ministers from BRICS nations are scheduled to arrive for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which is slated to occur from May 14 to May 15.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is slated to arrive in India today in anticipation of comprehensive discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the 13th of May, focusing on key aspects of cooperation between India and Russia.
As per a declaration issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers will concentrate on examining the advancements in executing the agreements established during President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to India in December 2025. Furthermore, they will prepare for forthcoming dialogues between the leaders in Russia and the next assembly of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation.

The ministers are set to discuss prevailing international and regional matters, placing particular emphasis on the developments in West Asia. Furthermore, they will deliberate on strategies for collaboration within the frameworks of the United Nations, BRICS, and the G20.
They will engage in discussions regarding an extensive array of priorities for bilateral collaboration.
This includes enhancing trade relations, revitalizing initiatives to establish stable and resilient transportation, logistical, and financial channels, safeguarding them from illegitimate external influences. Additionally, they aim to strengthen energy cooperation and broaden interactions in scientific research and space technology sectors.

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is also slated to visit India to participate in the high-level discussions.
New Delhi is set to transform into a central hub for global diplomatic engagements. This pivotal assembly marks a foundational element of India’s chairmanship in 2026, underscoring its pivotal role in leading the recently expanded multilateral coalition.
India formally took over the BRICS Chairmanship on January 1st of this year, succeeding Brazil. This occasion represents the fourth instance in which India has presided over this significant association, with previous summits being held in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
