Bhargav Dasgupta to Head Private Sector Operations of ADB as New Vice-President

On September 22, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced the appointment of Bhargav Dasgupta as Vice-President (Market Solutions) for a three-year term. According to the regional bank, his responsibilities include managing the operations of ADB's Private Sector Operations Department and the Office of Market Development and Public-Private Partnerships.

Dasgupta, the MD and CEO of ICICI Lombard, has over 35 years of experience working in a variety of economies, including Asia and the Pacific. He resigned from his position at ICICI on September 21. The insurance company stated in an exchange filing that Dasgupta will remain with the company until the last working day, which will be communicated in due course.

The insurance pioneer led ICICI Lombard General Insurance Co Ltd to be the first listed general insurance company in India. In his earlier years at ICICI Bank, he held various leadership positions in project finance, corporate banking and treasury, e-commerce, international banking, and insurance.

Dasgupta has been instrumental in ICICI's globalisation and insurance business growth as Senior General Manager and Head of the International Business Group and the Global Markets Group. He was in charge of the company's international clients, including correspondent banks and all international lending.

Dasgupta, who graduated from the Institute of Management, Bangalore, also led international operations establishments in 14 countries via branches, subsidiaries, or representative offices.
