Cisco and Karnataka Government to Train 40,000 Individuals in Cybersecurity

Separator

Cisco, a prominent networking company, has forged an agreement with the Karnataka government aimed at educating 40,000 individuals in cybersecurity skills and awareness. In an effort to address the increasing demand for such expertise as organizations enhance their cybersecurity measures, women will comprise fifty percent of the trained workforce. This initiative is outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed by the company and the Karnataka Innovation Technology Society, Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology.

According to Cisco's Cybersecurity Readiness Index, up to 90 percent of organizations in India anticipate a cybersecurity incident disrupting their operations within the next 12 to 24 months. The need for skill readiness is evident, with 40 percent of cybersecurity teams in Indian organizations being understaffed, as reported by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. Cisco's partnership with Karnataka highlights a shared dedication to providing students with cybersecurity skills that are immediately applicable in the workforce, as stated in a release.

As part of the collaboration, there will be a 'Train the Trainers' initiative aimed at equipping college faculties with the necessary knowledge and skills to establish a strong cyber ecosystem. This program will prioritize enhancing cyber awareness among citizens, strengthening their defenses, and empowering them to navigate online spaces with increased safety and security.

"As the digital-first world evolves, placing cybersecurity at the forefront, the imperative to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to cyber threats has become increasingly crucial. Our collaboration with the Karnataka Innovation Technology Society and the Government of Karnataka Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity underscores our commitment to empowering disadvantaged sections of society, including students, teachers, and senior citizens, with critical cyber security skills and awareness to protect against threats and be safer online”, said Harish Krishnan, managing director and chief policy officer, Cisco India and SAARC.

Furthermore, Cisco will partner with Karnataka's Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity to enhance cybersecurity awareness and skill development among students and professionals. Cisco's involvement will extend to curriculum enhancement, offering cybersecurity courses through the Cisco Networking Academy.
