Adani Power Ltd. has confirmed that it has received authorization from the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, to initiate operations at the Dhirauli Mine located in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. The company anticipates that this achievement will bolster its raw material security.

The Dhirauli Mine, which is managed by Mahan Energen Ltd., a subsidiary of Adani Power, boasts a peak production capability of 6.5 MTPA, which includes 5 MTPA from surface mining and the remainder from underground activities. The block possesses a total geological reserve of 620 MMT and a net geological reserve of 558 MMT.

As part of its responsible mining initiative, Adani Power may also wash and process the extracted coal within the mining site to ensure that impurities and inert substances are not transported beyond the mine area, thus minimizing emissions.

SB Khyalia, the Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power, remarked that the initiation of mining activities at the Dhirauli block represents a pivotal moment in the company's pursuit of self-sufficiency and sustainable development.

He noted that by moving backward in the supply chain for raw materials, the organization is optimizing its input costs and positioning itself to provide competitively priced electricity for millions of customers, while also committing to responsible mine development with a focus on long-term value for all stakeholders.

This is the first captive mine for Adani Power to obtain government approval to start mining operations. The Open Cast Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) for the mine is aimed for FY27, with underground mining expected to begin nine years after that. Adani Power has secured a 30-year mining lease for the block, ensuring long-term operational stability.

The Dhirauli block is projected to meet Adani Power's needs for merchant power and to supply the nearby 1,200 MW Mahan Power plant, which is currently in the process of a 3,200 MW expansion.
