imgThe European Union's Political and Security Committee, led by Chair Ambassador Delphine Pronk and consisting of ambassadors from all 27 EU member nations stationed in Brussels, will conduct a visit to India between September 10th and 14th to examine potential opportunities for strengthening collaboration on important foreign policy issues, security matters, and defense concerns.

This visit follows several significant recent developments, such as the February visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India, the first-ever EU-India Strategic Dialogue held in June, and the planned EU-India Summit scheduled for early 2026. The European Union represents one of India's major trading partners and sources of investment, with both parties working toward finalizing a free trade agreement before the end of 2025. As substantial, diverse democracies, the EU and India maintain a robust dedication to preserving the rule of law, protecting human rights, and maintaining democratic governance.

Expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming visit, Pronk said, “EU-India collaboration is vital in key areas of mutual interest, including counterterrorism, cybersecurity, hybrid threats, maritime security and maritime domain awareness, space security, defence industry cooperation and countering foreign information manipulation and interference. These critical issues will be high on our agenda and the insights and recommendations gathered from our visit will be presented to the top political leaders  ..

The Political and Security Committee consists of ambassadors from EU member nations based in Brussels and operates under the chairmanship of the European External Action Service.

It serves a crucial function in implementing the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy.

The Committee's primary duties encompass observing global developments and proposing strategic recommendations to the Council of the European Union. Additionally, the Committee offers direction to EU military operations.

The Political and Security Committee conducts routine diplomatic missions overseas, bringing together PSC ambassadors to participate in political discussions with international allies, non-member countries, and external organizations. These missions enable the EU and its member states to interact with partners regarding foreign policy, security, and defense topics. Such interactions permit the EU to incorporate direct external perspectives into its foreign policy development and accomplish comprehensive policy evaluation.
