GlobalLogic to Expand Workforce in India, Targeting Tier II and III Cities

Separator

GlobhalGlobalLogic, a Hitachi Group company, is set to significantly increase its workforce in India, with plans to expand into tier II and III cities. The digital engineering services company currently has around 15,000 employees in India, constituting nearly 45 percent of its global workforce. The expansion initiative will begin with Nagpur, where GlobalLogic plans to add over 400 employees within the next three months.

The company’s existing presence spans 10 cities in India, including Noida, Nagpur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gurugram, Mahabubnagar, and Kochi. The Nagpur office expansion is a key part of GlobalLogic's strategy to tap into talent pools in smaller cities. The company’s tier III city office in Mahabubnagar and its presence in Kochi through the acquisition of Katzion, an engineering firm, are further examples of its commitment to broadening its geographic footprint.

“We are looking at major expansions in talent and will continue with our hub and spoke strategy by hosting our programs in tier I cities, and making sizable forays into tier II cities to give talent there a chance to grow,” said Piyush Jha, MD and CEO - India & APAC, GlobalLogic, in a statement. Globally, GlobalLogic employs over 30,000 people, with India being a major contributor to its workforce.

In addition to expanding its workforce, GlobalLogic is strengthening its ties with academia through its industry-academia program. The company has partnered with seven technology universities and colleges across India, offering students courses recommended or assisted by GlobalLogic. This initiative aims to equip students with the skills needed for a seamless transition into the workforce. Starting this year, the company plans to introduce Generative AI (GenAI) modules in these colleges, ensuring that students are well-versed in GenAI before they enter the industry.

Jha highlighted that GlobalLogic has been involved in AI technologies for the past decade and has been working with GenAI for nearly three years. “At this point, at least 65 GenAI projects are happening in India. Worldwide, that number is more. Almost 90% of our engineers understand GenAI and can code with it; this gives us tremendous headroom in talking to our customers and participating with them on their GenAI journey,” he explained. The company anticipates using GenAI on almost all its customer projects within the next year.

India plays a crucial role in GlobalLogic’s global operations, contributing 30 percent to the company’s overall business. The company has seen its growth rate in India and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region increase to 30-35 percent, and it aims to achieve $1 billion in revenue from these regions by 2027.

In a bid to bolster its capabilities, GlobalLogic acquired two companies late last year: Katzion, an engineering firm based in Sydney, and Mobiveil, a company offering semiconductor engineering services, silicon intellectual property, and application platforms. Mobiveil’s expertise in embedded systems and VLSI was a key reason for the acquisition, particularly as GlobalLogic sought to strengthen its capabilities in the APAC region. Katzion, which has a significant presence in Kochi, adds further depth to GlobalLogic’s portfolio.

GlobalLogic’s focus in India remains on end-to-end digital transformation, working with companies across various sectors, including edtech, media, high tech, healthcare, and retail. Some of its major clients include McDonald’s, Kohl’s, Qualcomm, The Economist, and Nokia. Jha emphasized that GlobalLogic’s role is to help companies reinvent themselves and pursue new avenues, underscoring the company’s commitment to driving innovation and growth for its clients.
