India’s AM Green's division, Greenko ZeroC, has solidified a major deal with Norway’s Yara Clean Ammonia, a top global distributor of ammonia, to provide renewable ammonia. Under the agreement, Greenko will supply up to half of the renewable ammonia produced in the initial phase of its new facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. This partnership marks a significant step in AM Green's ambitious project, which aims to start production at 1 million tonnes annually, with plans to scale up to 5 million tonnes by 2030.

In this collaboration, Yara Clean Ammonia will utilize the green ammonia provided by Greenko ZeroC to manufacture low-emission fertilizers and work towards reducing carbon emissions in industries like shipping and power generation. The Kakinada facility is projected to begin exporting renewable ammonia by 2027, adhering to the European Union’s standards for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO).

Hans Olav Raen, the CEO of Yara Clean Ammonia, emphasized that this agreement will significantly enhance Yara's renewable energy portfolio. Yara, known for operating the largest global network in the ammonia sector, comprising 15 shipping vessels and 18 ammonia terminals worldwide, stands to benefit from the partnership. Meanwhile, AM Green, founded by Anil Chalamalasetty and Mahesh Kolli of the Greenko Group, is solidifying its position as a leader in the clean energy sector. Their expansion into the production of green ammonia, green hydrogen, biofuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and other crucial chemicals reflects their commitment to global decarbonization efforts.
