Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu launched the inaugural flight of the Dhruv NG, the next-generation civil helicopter from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), created to address the changing needs of India’s civil aviation industry.

Prior to departing from HAL's facility, the minister entered the cockpit alongside the pilot to experience the helicopter's advanced systems and features firsthand.

HAL officials characterized the Dhruv NG as a “advanced 5.5-tonne, light twin-engine, multi-role helicopter designed to excel in the varied and challenging conditions of the Indian landscape” and emphasized that it has been enhanced to satisfy the stringent criteria of the international civil aviation sector.

The helicopter represents an important achievement in India’s homegrown rotary-wing technology, emphasizing improved safety, performance, and passenger comfort. It operates with dual Shakti 1H1C engines, offering enhanced power ratings and the benefit of internal maintenance capabilities within India.
