ICEYE-AgniKul Deal Puts India's Space Startups in Global Orbit

In a development that may pave the way for India to become a global hub for manufacturing and launching in the space industry, Finnish microsatellite manufacturer and operator ICEYE has partnered with Chennai-based AgniKul Cosmos to investigate the possibilities of constructing, launching, and managing synthetic aperture radar (SAR) Earth observation systems from India.
The two companies have decided to work together on establishing a comprehensive sovereign SAR Earth observation system, with satellites produced in India by ICEYE and launched using a domestic rocket, eliminating reliance on international launch schedules.
This is significant because ICEYE possesses the largest and most sophisticated SAR satellite constellation globally, having deployed over 70 satellites and provided sovereign satellite constellations to seven European governments, including Poland within a year of signing contracts, along with Sweden and Germany.

ICEYE, a worldwide frontrunner in space-based sovereign intelligence, will investigate the creation of satellite manufacturing facilities in India and utilize AgniKul’s complete responsive launch capabilities. This occurs as India's space economy is anticipated to expand from its present value of around $8–9 billion to $40–45 billion over the next ten years.
“With this deal, we may see even 50 launches a year within the next few years. This is a huge achievement for us that ICEYE picked us as a partner,” says Moin S P M, cofounder and chief operating officer of AgniKul Cosmos. “What makes this collaboration particularly exciting is that it goes beyond a single mission,” he says.
“By combining manufacturing, launch and operational capabilities under one ecosystem, we can create a repeatable model that can support long-term deployment programs for customers in India and around the world. This is the kind of integrated infrastructure the global space industry increasingly demands,” he adds.

“Previously, building and launching a satellite system privately in India mostly meant piecing together foreign technology and waiting on timelines that we as a nation did not control,” says Srinath Ravichandran, cofounder and chief executive officer (CEO) of AgniKul Cosmos. “This partnership aims to change that equation. Applications such as disaster response, sensitive area monitoring and security are national priorities, and India deserves sovereign capabilities to support them,” he adds.
“India is an important market for us as demand for sovereign intelligence capabilities continues to grow globally. Partnerships built around speed, reliability, and long-term execution are becoming increasingly important in these times, and this is what we seek to build with AgniKul,” says Rafał Modrzewski, cofounder and CEO of ICEYE.
For AgniKul, this incorporates ICEYE into an expanding portfolio of global commercial alliances that include clients from India, West Asia, and Australia, bolstering AgniKul’s goal to emerge as one of the world’s top space transportation firms.
For ICEYE, India signifies a crucial Asia-Pacific manufacturing hub opportunity, creating satellites for both national initiatives and international markets. ICEYE manages the largest constellation of SAR satellites globally.
The collaboration unites two technological leaders from separate continents, each renowned in its respective field. AgniKul provides reusable launch infrastructure based on single-piece 3D-printed rocket engines, which shorten manufacturing time from months to days — the level of responsiveness that worldwide satellite operators are progressively looking for.
ICEYE offers established sovereign satellite technology that seven European governments have already utilized for their national intelligence needs, successfully delivering Poland’s sovereign SAR constellation in under 12 months after the contract was signed, marking it as one of the quickest sovereign satellite deployments worldwide. The firms would merge agile launch infrastructure with established SAR technology to develop a new framework for sovereign space capabilities in India, the statement noted.
