IIT Madras Launches Quantitative Research Lab to Boost AI

TheThe IIT Madras has set up an AlphaGrep Quantitative Research Lab focused on next-generation research advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for quantitative finance. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution of Rs 5.65 crore from AlphaGrep Securities endowed the new lab, which is expected to spur innovation across financial market research, quantitative investment management, and risk management.

The lab will be constituted at IIT Madras under the Department of Data Science and AI to explore applications of AI in finance, studying market microstructure and advanced risk management strategies. It will also encourage focused courses by the students on AI in finance and develop essential datasets for research.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, said that this comes just in time: "The lab will discuss how AI can be utilized for efficient functioning of the operations of financial institutions.

Prof. Ashwin Mahalingam, Alumni and Corporate Relations Dean, IIT Madras, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mohit Mutreja, Chairman and Managing Director, AlphaGrep Securities. Mutreja noted that the initiative will further innovation and research in AI and machine learning for quantitative finance.

Such a lab will not only inspire further research but also help train resources in AI for finance through various programmes. The benefits of mentorship and advanced resources offered by this collaboration will establish a ground on which really groundbreaking developments in AI-driven finance will set place.
