Income Tax Department Surveys L&T, Zee Group for Alleged Tax Evasion

IT officials conducted surveys at offices of Larsen & Toubro and Zee Group. An official of tax department said that the raid is due to alleged GST evasion.

As per reported by PTI, L&T did not confirm nor denied the development, while Zee – the media group – confirmed the tax survey.

The tax official said surveys have been carried out at many L&T premises in the city, and in case of Zee, the surveys are underway at all its offices across the country since morning.

The Zee spokesperson said in a statement that, “Officials from the tax department have visited our offices, with certain queries. Our officials are providing all the required information and extending complete cooperation”.

The source from the department said that the surveys are to check whether these companies have evaded GST and if yes, how much.

The tip off for the said alleged tax evasion came from the erstwhile Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, now renamed as the Directorate General of GST Intelligence. This is the apex revenue intelligence body under the Central Boar of Indirect Taxes & Customs.
