The century old Indian spice company MDH’s owner Mahashay Dharampal Gulati passes away at the age of 98 due to cardiac arrest. As per initial reports, he was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi for the last three weeks.

Gulati, who was fondly called as Dalaji and Mahashayji, started the spice business after moving to India post the partition in 1947 and stayed at refugee camp in Amristar.

"He was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2019, the third highest civilian award"


He later moved to Delhi and opened his first store in Karol Bagh, later having officially establishing the company in 1959.
