Jindal Stainless Invests Rs.900 Crore for Cold Rolling Capacity

Jindal Stainless is allocating Rs.900 crore to enhance its cold rolling capacity to meet the growing demand for the product from industries like automotive, appliances, and food processing, stated the company's Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal.
The investment will enhance the company's cold rolling capacity from 2.05 MTPA to 2.67 MTPA by fiscal year 2028, he mentioned in the annual report for FY26.

The executive mentioned that, in addition to upstream efforts, the company is significantly investing in enhancing its downstream capabilities.
"Our ₹900 crore investment across Hisar and Kharagpur, along with new hot rolled annealing, pickling, and cold rolling facilities at Jajpur, will...support a higher-value mix for automotive, appliances, food processing, and industrial applications," Jindal says.
Cold rolling is a precise metal fabrication method that molds and compresses steel without applying heat. This technique improves structural integrity, tightens dimensional accuracy, and provides a smooth, high-quality surface finish, rendering cold-rolled sheet metal vital for high-precision, high-durability uses.
Regarding the Maharashtra project, he mentioned that the planned facility will enhance logistics efficiency, aid in import substitution, and cater to rapidly growing strategic sectors.
Jindal Stainless is currently searching for a location for its planned Rs.40,000-crore stainless steel production facility in Maharashtra, where it aims to manufacture specialized steel grades for essential uses in developing sectors like hydrogen, nuclear energy, defence, mobility, infrastructure, and process industries.

The firm consistently retained around 70 percent recycled scrap usage in its electric arc furnace production method and persisted in moving toward its goals of cutting Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50 percent by 2035 and attaining net zero by 2050.
Disclosing financial information, the MD mentioned that in FY26, the company's consolidated revenue was Rs.42,955 crore, with EBITDA rising 19.2 percent year-on-year to Rs.5,560 crore and profit after tax increasing 27.4 percent to Rs.3,185 crore.
