Adani Group Talks Clean Energy Projects With Odisha Government

Karan Adani, CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, met with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy CM KV Singh Deo to discuss the ongoing and proposed Adani Group projects in the state, which include plans for establishing nuclear power facilities.

Joined by a team, Adani explored options for industrial partnership and infrastructure enhancement with Majhi, concentrating on initiatives suggested by the Adani Group in Odisha.

The Adani Group previously met with Singh Deo and showed interest in investing in the energy sector of the state.

Acknowledging the necessity for ongoing, carbon-free baseline energy, the talks specifically highlighted renewable sources, it noted. The Adani Group additionally invited Singh Deo to tour its renewable energy initiatives in different states.

In the meeting with Majhi, which involved senior officials from the state government, topics such as approvals, land identification and acquisition, along with challenges at the ground level, were addressed.

In today’s meeting, they reiterated their intent to invest in Odisha’s clean energy sector, including the establishment of two power plants with a capacity of 3,000 MW each.

The meeting additionally covered the Adani Group's future projects within the state, such as suggested bauxite mining, aluminum, and energy facilities.

During his meeting with Singh Deo, the deliberations focused on accelerating the deployment of clean energy infrastructure -- specifically Pumped Storage Plants (PSP), Solar Power generation, and Nuclear Power projects -- to fortify long-term energy security, grid reliability, and sustainable energy development goals in the state.

The team has suggested an alumina refinery and a dedicated power facility in Rayagada district, bauxite extraction at Kutrumali in Rayagada district and Balada in Koraput district, along with an aluminium smelter in Cuttack district.

 

An integrated coal gasification and coal-to-chemicals facility has also been suggested for Bedabahal in Sundargarh district.

The initiative has received approval from a prominent committee and anticipates an investment of approximately Rs 80,000 crore.

The company has additionally suggested expanding its port at Dhamra along with other initiatives in the state.

Senior officials of the Odisha government, such as Development Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Dev, and ACS (Housing & Urban Development) Usha Padhee, attended the meeting.
