Jubilant FoodWorks Moves to Transfer Dunkin’ India Rights

Jubilant FoodWorks is currently engaged in negotiations with the US-based company Inspire Brands to hand over the franchise rights for Dunkin' in India.

This process is taking place prior to the expiration of their present agreement, which is set to conclude at the end of December, according to reports.

The discussions pertain to a possible sale and conveyance of franchise rights to Inspire Brands, the entity that globally acquired Dunkin’ in 2020. Jubilant had initially obtained the rights for India approximately 15 years ago from the company’s previous proprietors.

Subsequent to the transfer, Inspire Brands is anticipated to designate and establish a new franchise partner responsible for managing the brand's operations in India. Dunkin' conveyed that the company plans to maintain and broaden its presence in the Indian market through a new franchise group, emphasizing that India continues to be integral to its long-term international strategy.

Inspire Brands has established a presence in India through its partnership with the Graviss Group, the operators of the Baskin Robbins franchise in the nation.

Jubilant FoodWorks previously notified the stock exchanges of its decision to terminate its franchise agreement with Dunkin' India upon its conclusion on December 31. The company will subsequently consider options for transferring the franchise rights through discussions with the brand.

Dunkin's presence in the Indian market has been constrained. As of December 2025, the franchise maintained 27 locations, as indicated by company reports, with seven stores closing throughout the year.

The brand accounted for approximately 0.61 percent of Jubilant's revenue in fiscal year 2025 and incurred a loss of nearly Rs.19.1 crore during that period.

 

Jubilant FoodWorks manages various international quick-service restaurant brands within India, such as Domino's Pizza and Popeyes. Dunkin' is set to withdraw from the Indian market following Jubilant FoodWorks' decision to not extend its franchise agreement for the brand.

In 2011, Jubilant FoodWorks embarked on its venture into the Dunkin' India market by securing rights through the MUDFA, allowing it to establish and manage the brand within the nation. This agreement was integral to the company's larger strategy aimed at enhancing its market presence beyond its primary focus on the pizza business.

The Dunkin' brand functions as an international coffee and doughnut chain. Within India, it is strategically placed in the quick service restaurant (QSR) sector, where it faces competition from both local and global coffee and food chains. Jubilant FoodWorks manages an extensive network exceeding 3,500 retail locations across six regions, encompassing India, Turkey, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, as reported by the company.

The portfolio comprises internationally recognized brands like Domino’s and Popeyes, in addition to proprietary brands such as Hong’s Kitchen and COFFY, the latter of which functions in Turkey. The company indicated that the restructuring of Dunkin’s operations will occur progressively and will involve discussions with the brand owner.
