Karnataka secured the top position in the nation by adding the largest wind power capacity of 1,331.48 MW in the fiscal year 2024-25. State Energy Minister K J George was presented with the award by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, at the Global Wind Day 2025 festivities themed 'Pawan-Urja: Powering the Future of India', which took place in Bengaluru. Karnataka was followed by Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, contributing 1,136.37 MW and 954.76 MW, respectively, according to a statement from Minister George's office.
"This figure represents more than just a statistic; it symbolizes Karnataka's steadfast dedication to clean energy," George stated after being presented with the award.
He stated that the proactive policies, execution abilities, and foresight have established Karnataka as a frontrunner in the renewable energy sector.
The increase of 1,331 MW in just one year showcases the state's progress in utilizing wind energy for a sustainable future, he noted.
He claims that Karnataka's overall installed wind power capacity currently reaches 7,351 MW, demonstrating its ongoing dominance in renewable energy.
"This accomplishment symbolizes our capability to carry out large-scale initiatives and deliver clean energy to households, farmers, and industries," the minister stated.
George reiterated Karnataka's backing of the national goal of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, with an expected contribution of 100 GW from wind energy.
"Karnataka is preparing to implement 17 GW of wind power projects, with over 5 GW planned under the Renewable Energy Cluster Program. Infrastructure is being strengthened through the establishment of more than 20 substations, 400 KV corridors, and a Renewable Energy Reserve Zone," says K J George.
