Lundbeck Names Markus Kede as Senior VP and Chief AI Officer

Lundbeck A/S (Lundbeck) declared the appointment of Markus Kede as Senior Vice President and Chief AI Officer. He will become part of the Executive Leadership Team and will report to President and CEO, Charl van Zyl.

The appointment signifies a significant advancement in Lundbeck's goal to evolve into a bionic company.

AI serves as a vital component of Lundbeck's Focused Innovator strategy, significantly influencing the way the company functions, innovates, and amplifies its effect on patients.

"As we progress with our Focused Innovator strategy, our transformation into a bionic company is a central strategic priority," stated Charl van Zyl, President and CEO of Lundbeck. "AI involves more than just the execution of technology." It involves altering our mindset, choices, and actions throughout our complete value chain. Markus possesses the entrepreneurial mindset and established history required to integrate AI into our operations responsibly and in a way that generates value.

Lundbeck has formed multiple strategic AI partnerships in recent years, including alliances with OpenAI, Iambic Therapeutics, and the Danish Centre for AI Innovation. Collectively, these initiatives promote research and the early identification of novel drug candidates, while also hastening commercial execution via data-informed decision-making, improved customer interaction, and bolstered patient assistance. Throughout the organization, AI is enhancing operational effectiveness and facilitating innovative, scalable methods of working.

As Chief AI Officer, Markus Kede will oversee the ongoing development and implementation of Lundbeck's worldwide AI strategy. He will create robust governance and ethical AI approaches, develop targeted AI skills, and promote widespread implementation across departments.

 

His task is to establish clear priorities and measurable value generation, enhancing Lundbeck's long-term competitiveness.

Markus Kede offers over 15 years of global leadership expertise in commercial and international positions within highly regulated settings. He presently holds the position of Senior Vice President, Finance & Business Planning at Lundbeck US, where he oversees strategic and financial outcomes for the US organization and leads the US Digital & AI Strategy Committee.

In this role, he has played a crucial part in shaping and promoting AI projects and speeding up organizational acceptance of AI and automation. He will move from his present role in the US over the next few months and is anticipated to take on his new position and join the Executive Leadership Team by July 1.
