The appointments committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Manish Sinha IP&TA&FS (1989) to the post of Member (Finance), Digital Communications Commission (DCC).
DCC is the highest policy making body of the Department of Telecommunications.
Sinha has been appointed with ex officio status of Secretary to the government of India on absorption basis wef the date of his assumption of charge of the post and upto the date of his superannuation or until further orders whichever is earlier.
Currently, Dilip Padhye is holding charge of Member (Finance).
The appointment comes ahead of the upcoming 5G spectrum auction scheduled on July 29.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has received applications from four companies to participate in the upcoming spectrum auction. The auction includes 5G airwaves in 3.5 GHz and the milimetre bands. The applicants include three telecom service providers — Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea and Adani Enterprises.
