March Auto Sales Jump in India, Two-Wheelers Take Lead: SIAM

India's automotive sector concluded the fiscal year on a solid note, as key vehicle segments recorded significant double-digit growth in March 2026, as per data published by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday.
The two-wheeler category spearheaded the growth, indicating widespread demand and continued positive outlook in the industry.
Sales of passenger vehicles increased by 16 percent year-on-year to 4,42,460 units in March 2026, up from 3,81,358 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. The rise indicates consistent consumer demand and a robust introduction of new models from various manufacturers.
Two-wheelers experienced a significant increase of 19.3 percent, with overall sales rising to 19,76,128 units from 16,56,939 units in March 2025. In the category, scooters surpassed motorcycles, increasing 29.8 percent to 761,422 units, whereas motorcycle sales grew 12.9 percent to 1,168,514 units.
Three-wheelers experienced significant growth, with sales rising 21.4 percent to 76,273 units from 62,813 units the previous year.

The overall results enabled the automotive sector to finish the fiscal year positively, with robust growth across various segments. The information omits premium automakers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and Volvo.
In general, the numbers demonstrate ongoing progress in India's automotive industry, bolstered by enhancing demand conditions and a consistent flow of products.

SIAM collects monthly wholesale data from its member manufacturers and acts as the main source for automobile production, sales, and export figures in India. The information shows vehicles sent from producers to dealerships and does not indicate retail or final consumer sales.
