Maruti Suzuki India Limited reaffirmed its commitment to increasing the use of renewable energy in its operations by announcing two new projects that will increase its solar capacity by 30MWp (megawatt-peak).

The carmaker expanded its solar capacity at its Manesar factory by 10MWp and put a 20MWp solar power project into operation at its new location in Kharkhoda, Haryana.

In the past year, MSIL's overall solar capacity across all of its locations has increased from 49MWp to 79MWp thanks to these developments.

With an expenditure of more than Rs 925 crore, Maruti Suzuki intends to reach 319MWp of solar power by FY2030-31.

According to the corporation, it is boosting the proportion of green power it uses that comes from state electrical boards.

“Aligned with our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation's Environment Vision 2050 and the government of India's focus on renewable energy, we are systematically enhancing the use of renewable energy in our operations,” says Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

“As we scale up production to four million units, we are committed to matching that growth with equally ambitious sustainable energy practices”, he adds.

He further went on to say, “This solar power expansion is a crucial step towards creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy ecosystem and contributes positively to the environment”.

It will be able to significantly reduce its reliance on fossil fuels thanks to these solar and green power projects.

It is anticipated that with further efforts, the proportion of electricity generated from renewable sources will approach 85 percent by FY2030–31.

At all of its locations, Maruti Suzuki India is aggressively implementing green production techniques.
