Mastercard has agreed to be one of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) top-tier sponsors for the 2023 World Cup in India, which will take place between October 5 and November 19. Mastercard now joins MRF Tyres, Booking.com, Aramco, and Emirates as ICC's global partners.

According to sources, a global partnership requires a $10 million annual investment.

They claim that because the World Cup is being held in India, the ICC is looking for a premium from brands, even though demand for big-ticket sponsorship assets remains low. There are three types of sponsors at the ICC: global partners, official partners, and category partners. Sponsors receive a variety of benefits, including media integration, in-stadium branding, tickets, and hospitality.

Mastercard's chief marketing and communications officer, Raja Rajamannar, stated that the company will spend a significant amount of money to gain the appropriate level of visibility during the World Cup. In addition, until March, Mastercard was the title sponsor for all bilateral matches played in India.
