Micron Technology, the US-based industry leader in innovative memory and storage solutions celebrated the grand opening of its Global Development Centre in the southern Indian technology hub of Hyderabad on Friday, 4th October 2019. The new site will be used to develop technologies in a wide range of areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. The new center was inaugurated by Telangana IT Minister K. T. Rama Rao, National Institute for Transforming India Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, and Chief Secretary of the Government of Telangana SK Joshi.

“We’re delighted to launch our Global Development Centre in Hyderabad and expand our team of engineers, researchers, developers, and IT specialists,” says Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO, Micron. “Leveraging global talent, like our new Hyderabad team members, helps us drive innovation and stay at the forefront of emerging memory technologies,” he adds.

Micron first expanded its footprint in India when it opened its operations site in Bangalore in April 2019. Micron’s India presence in Bangalore and now in Hyderabad complements the company’s global centers of excellence around the world, providing design and product engineering functions for next-generation memory and high-value storage solutions. design and verification labs. The company aims to fill a wide range of roles in Hyderabad, including those in engineering, science, research and information technology. Micron expects to hire approximately 2000 employees in India within the next few years.

In line with Micron’s commitment to investing in the local communities in which it operates, the company also announced that it is awarding a $ 1,00,000 grant to the Akshaya Patra Foundation’s midday-meal program through the Micron Foundation. The program helps eliminate classroom hunger, increase school attendance, address malnutrition, improve concentration and provide employment opportunities for women. The donation will benefit 5000 children and their families for an entire school year. Micron is also encouraging team members to volunteer and support Akshaya Patra in a variety of ways.
