Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani removes Chinese Tech tycoons from Global Rich List
Reliance Industries (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani and Adani Group founder Gautam Adani have raced past Chinese billionaires and tech tycoons like Jack Ma and Zhong Shanshan in global wealth rankings, making them Asia’s richest business persons.
Ambani's wealth has soared over $84 billion, making him the 12th richest person on the planet. Ambani has added $7.62 billion in 2021 so far. Adani's wealth, on the other hand, has increased to $77 billion, registering a spike of $43.2 billion in 2021 so far. Adani is the 14th richest man.
Ambani and Adani have received a boost from stock rallies. Nifty50 index has jumped 13 percent in 2021 so far. Shares of Reliance Industries are up by 12 percent to INR 2,215.80 year-to-date, whereas Reliance Industrial Infrastructure (RIIL) and Network 18 Media & Investments have surged between 40 and 45 percent.
Among Adani Group companies, shares of Adani Total Gas have rallied 335 percent to INR 1,625.8 on June 11 to INR 374.9 recently. Adani Transmission has soared 264 percent and Adani Enterprises has advanced 235 percent in 2021. Adani Power is also up by 200 percent, followed by Adani Ports (74 percent) and Adani Green (17 percent).
Wipro's Azim Premji (42nd), HCL Technologies' Shiv Nadar (72nd), Lakshmi Mittal (88th) are other key names featuring among the top 100 wealthiest people in the list.
Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest person, with a net worth of $194 billion. He is followed by LVMH Chief Executive Bernard Arnault, having riches worth $173 billion. With a fortune of over $169 billion, Tesla's boss Elon Musk is third on the list. Microsoft founder Bill Gates ($145 billion) and Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg ($124 billion) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively on the list. Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Warren Buffet are other centibillionaires on the list. Barring France's Arnault and Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, all others above Ambani on the list are Americans.
Zhong Shanshan, the founder of the Nongfu Spring Beverage Company and owner of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy, is the richest Chinese on the list. His wealth has decreased by $7 billion in 2021.
