Suresh Nanda is an ex-navy man and the chairman of the luxury hotel chain — Claridges Group of Hotels. He is known for his active involvement in social initiatives.

It is no secret that a healthy society breeds healthy businesses. Of all, education at the elementary level to underprivileged children is considered to be the backbone of the future of any country. Countries with a rapidly growing economy and higher Gini index such as India need to ensure education to all children for unleashing the true potential of the workforce in the time to come. Being a Gandhian, Suresh Nanda has always believed in the idea of Gandhian trusteeship to enable the welfare of the people of the society.

Since his early entrepreneurial ventures, Suresh Nanda has been dedicating himself to enable underprivileged children to access free education. “I am a patron of the Savera Association which is involved in the education and development of underprivileged children in Srinivaspuri, Delhi. We provide free education to children including their uniforms, books, tuitions, breakfast, lunch, etc. We also arrange activities for girl child wherein they learn to be self-independent,” says Suresh Nanda.

Savera Association is an over two-decade-old organisation that is located in the heart of Delhi, Srinivaspuri. It aims to provide education as well as essential health services to the residents of the Basti. Joining hands with the organisation, Suresh Nanda has ensured that no one goes without the promised aid to the impoverished children and their families in the locality. “Moreover, we have a team of doctors and nurses where we provide free medical services and medicines to the patients,” he added.

By providing the dual essential services to the needy — education and health, the organisation facilitates the well-rounded development of the children so that they cannot only become responsible citizens of tomorrow but also better human beings. Suresh Nanda is helping Savera Association to break down the barriers of poverty and discrimination towards the people in Srinivaspuri. “The objective of the Savera Association is to promote primary healthcare and education, especially for the girl child. The association also makes sure that the children in addition to education also get a nutritious diet,” he explained.

Suresh Nanda is a former Lt. Commander of the Indian Navy. After serving in the Navy for 15 years, he started his corporate career. Today he is one of the leading international hoteliers and a well-known name in the business fraternity in India.
