The book sheds light on the scale and pace of AI-driven disruption, presenting hard-hitting projections. Seth notes that, for the first time, AI is set to impact even high-skill, high-wage professions once thought immune, such as investment banking, consulting, and surgery. He warns that by 2040, up to 80percent of knowledge workers worldwide could be displaced, unfolding in three distinct waves:
• 2025–30: Initial 2–5 percent job losses, with greater impact on roles like customer service and software development, partly balanced by new AI-related opportunities.
• 2030–35: 15–35 percent of jobs at risk as AI becomes more advanced and cost-effective.
• 2035–40: 35–50 percent of jobs potentially eliminated as humanoid robots and autonomous agents become mainstream.
