ONDC Appoints Vibhor Jain as Acting CEO

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has declared that Vibhor Jain will assume the role of Acting CEO effective immediately. Jain currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer and is also part of the eight-member Executive Committee. This change in leadership occurs after the resignation of former CEO Thampy Koshy, who stepped down last month after finishing a three-year tenure.
After Koshy’s departure, ONDC issued a statement indicating that, similar to any dynamic and expanding organization, it is experiencing a leadership change, with Koshy opting to resign while still aiding in the transition process.
While the organisation persists in its quest for a new Managing Director and CEO, all executive authority will now be assigned to Jain. The company announced that, with the transition to a single leader, the duties once managed by the eight-member Executive Committee will now be overseen by the Acting CEO. This shift will signify the conclusion of the Committee’s temporary function.
Suresh Sethi, Board Member, ONDC, says, “The Executive Committee has done a commendable job of guiding ONDC during a critical phase of its journey. However, with several key strategic decisions underway, it is imperative to have a single point of leadership to drive cohesive execution.”
Vibhor Jain, Acting-CEO and COO, ONDC, says, “I am committed to working closely with the Board, stakeholders, and the broader ecosystem to ensure continuity and momentum as we deliver on our mission to democratise digital commerce in India.”
Notably, it is the logistics sector—comprised of companies such as Loadshare, Shadowfax, Zypp, and Ecom Express—that is obtaining greater momentum on ONDC. Conversely, the retail sector, encompassing e-commerce, groceries, and food delivery, has experienced a decrease in order volume, falling from a high of 6,540,667 orders in October 2024 to 4,342,204 orders by April 2025. At the same time, logistics orders rose from 1,871,408 in October 2024 to 2,416,389 in April 2025.
ONDC, a Section 8 enterprise, is a project of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Its goal is to establish a supportive framework that fosters an open and inclusive digital network for buyers and sellers alike.
Simultaneously, start-ups are leveraging ONDC to expand their rapid delivery services, utilizing its open infrastructure to access more customers swiftly and rival bigger competitors.
For example, the Bengaluru-based start-up KiranaPro became a part of ONDC in February 2025 to expand its fast commerce activities.
“Being directly integrated into ONDC positions us to rapidly scale our operations,” says KiranaPro co-founder and CEO Deepak Ravindran.
