
Piyush Goyal, Business Leaders Talk Trade, Investment in India

During a speech at the India-US Strategic Forum in New York while trade tensions persist, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India's energy security objectives will be closely tied to the US in upcoming years, given India's position as a significant energy importer.
Goyal also showed enthusiasm for small modular reactor technology developments in America and mentioned that both nations would maintain their collaboration in nuclear energy.
A team of Indian trade representatives, headed by Goyal, is currently in America working to restart dormant trade negotiations following a visit by US Trade Representative officials to India on September 16.
According to Goyal, energy represents a sector requiring international cooperation. He pointed out that India imports substantial amounts of energy, including from America, and anticipates that energy product trade with the US will expand in future years.

India ranks as the world's third-biggest crude oil consumer, depending on imports for approximately 88 percent of its requirements. The country also imports significant quantities of liquefied natural gas, satisfying roughly half its gas consumption through imports. Recently, America has become India's fifth-largest crude oil provider and second-largest LNG supplier.
Throughout his trip to the US and various international activities, Goyal conducted senior-level discussions with multinational CEOs, corporate executives, and government officials, emphasizing India's significance as a key hub for commerce, capital investment, and technological advancement.
Goyal engaged with Stephen A. Schwarzman, Chairman and CEO of Blackstone, to examine the company's investment strategies for India, demonstrating ongoing international trust in the nation's economic prospects.
The minister additionally met with Raj Subramaniam, CEO of FedEx, to investigate prospects within India's expanding logistics industry and its increasing importance in worldwide supply networks.

For strengthening collaboration in logistics and infrastructure development, Goyal conducted discussions with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of DP World. His conference with IBM CEO Arvind Krishna concentrated primarily on strengthening technological alliances through investment in cutting-edge technologies and leveraging India's youthful workforce for worldwide innovation.
Furthermore, he convened with World Bank President Ajay Banga to explore partnership opportunities regarding sustainable development, equitable growth, and establishing robust systems throughout India.

During a New York conference on energy security hosted by India, USISPF, and ReNew Power, Goyal emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "One Sun, One World, One Grid" initiative. He drew attention to India's commitment to renewable energy and technological advancement, along with the necessary infrastructure development to facilitate the global shift toward clean energy sources.
