PM Modi, Australian Opposition Leader Discuss Bilateral Ties

During his ongoing three-day visit to Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Australia's Opposition Leader Angus Taylor, and both leaders explored methods to enhance the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The meeting highlighted the bipartisan agreement in Australia on enhancing collaboration with India in crucial sectors, illustrating the increasing depth of the bilateral ties.
Disclosing information about the meeting on X, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with Angus Taylor MP, the Opposition Leader of Australia."
They engaged in fruitful talks regarding the expanding India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Emphasizing the importance of the engagement, Jaiswal remarked: "The friendly and welcoming meeting demonstrated the robust bipartisan backing in Australia for expanding relations with India."
The meeting with Taylor arises during Prime Minister Modi's busy agenda in Australia, where he has been connecting with political figures, business leaders, and the Indian community to enhance bilateral relations.
While visiting, PM Modi has conducted bilateral discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, met with Governor-General Sam Mostyn and Victoria Governor Margaret Gardner AC, participated in the Australia-India CEO Forum, attended an Indian community gathering in Melbourne, and met with former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

In parallel, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where he will meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to announce a plan for sports collaboration between their nations.

In a special media briefing regarding the Prime Minister's visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated earlier on Thursday, "Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese will tour the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground to emphasize another area of increasing cooperation between the two nations, which is sports, and they will seize this opportunity to reveal the India-Australia sports collaboration roadmap."

Misri observed that sports has become a promising field for bilateral collaboration, especially with India scheduled to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and Australia getting ready for the Olympic Games in 2032.
