PM Modi Congratulates Trump on Historic US Election Victory
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has secured a historic victory in the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, and congratulations have poured in from across the globe. Among the leaders extending their well wishes is Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a close ally of Trump.
Modi took to social media platform X to congratulate Trump, saying, "Heartiest congratulations my friend", alongside images from past visits to the U.S. The Prime Minister emphasized his anticipation of a strengthened partnership between India and the U.S., highlighting the importance of their collaboration. "As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership", Modi posted. He added, "Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity".
Trump’s victory, which positions him to return to the White House, marks a significant moment in U.S. history. The U.S. Electoral College, with its total of 538 votes, requires 270 votes to win. Both Trump and his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, were vying for this majority in an election widely regarded as one of the most pivotal in recent U.S. history.
