ReNew Power to Build India's Largest Renewable Energy Facility in Andhra Pradesh

ReNew Power, a prominent green energy firm, plans to invest Rs 22,000 crore to build India's largest renewable energy facility in Andhra Pradesh, signaling its return to the state after five years.
ReNew plans to establish a solar energy plant with a capacity of 1,800 megawatts and a wind facility of 1,000 megawatts, along with a 2 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) in two phases in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, according to sources familiar with the details.
The firm will additionally establish a 100-kilometre extra-high voltage (EVH) line to transmit the clean energy.
The project is set to break ground on May 16, and it is anticipated that Nara Lokesh, the Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, and Human Resources Development in the Andhra Pradesh government, will be present.
In the initial stage, ReNew plans to establish a 587 MW solar facility and a 250.8 MW wind project, along with a 415 MWh battery energy storage system, they mentioned, noting that the additional capacity will be built in later phases.
The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy administration in the state had, in 2019, mandated a review of all electricity tariff contracts established with renewable energy companies. The reevaluation of the power purchase agreements (PPAs) jeopardized around 5.2 GW of solar and wind energy initiatives in the state.
The action impacted 14 prominent renewable energy firms, such as ACME Solar, ReNew Power, Greenko Holding, Axis Wind farms, Azure Power, and Mytrah. The companies took the state government to court, resulting in a pause in investments.

ReNew's return to Andhra Pradesh, following the PPA review that affected its 777 MW project under the previous government, is regarded as a show of faith in N Chandrababu Naidu's administration.
