SamsungSamsung India has signed an MoA with a group of workers that operates its Chennai facility, meeting most of the demands of workers who went on strike from September 9, 2024. That is going to solve the problems they faced and improve the working environment.

Under the MoA, Samsung has agreed to a range of measures to improve working conditions for employees. The company will engage with a designated workmen committee in discussions and improvements of wage competitiveness to promote welfare of the workforce. There would be an incentive of productivity stabilization at Rs 5,000 per month from October 2024 to March 2025. This has been factored into annual wage negotiations to be held this year for the 2025-26 fiscal.

For instance, it has placed expansion plans for air-conditioned bus services to all 108 routes from the present five routes by next year. From four to six times a year is what Samsung promised to increase family invitation events and offer a gift of Rs 2,000 to every family participating in an event. And, in the event of an employee's death while in service, the organization will provide the family with an immediate supplementary assistance of Rs 1 lakh to manage immediate expenses.

Also, the MoA addresses various welfare initiatives pertaining to facilities. They include establishing a new medical room in the compressor building, diversification of the cafeteria menu, and increases in meal allowances. Samsung will also upgrade break rooms and restrooms, replace old lockers, and install canopies between buildings. Finally, the company will enhance the days it offers the vacation to workers and give Rs 2,000 gift cards to employees when a child is born.

The recently achieved deal by Samsung India is designed to lead to a joint relationship with its employees while increasing levels of supportiveness and productivity in the workplace.
