InIn a significant leap forward in wind energy technology, Senvion India has officially launched its latest innovation, the 4.2M160 wind turbine generator. This state-of-the-art turbine, developed by the in-house research and development teams in India and Germany, is poised to transform the landscape of renewable energy in the country. Manufactured locally, the 4.2M160 turbine represents a concerted effort to harness the full potential of wind energy while promoting sustainable practices and boosting local industry.

The 4.2M160 is notable for being the first 4 MW wind turbine generator (WTG) developed by the collaborative efforts of RE Technologies and the Senvion group. With an impressive rotor diameter of 160 meters and hub heights reaching up to 140 meters, this turbine is specifically designed to maximize energy output even under low wind conditions. Employing proven Double Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology, the turbine features 78.5-meter blades crafted to excel in less-than-ideal wind environments.

One of the key highlights of the 4.2M160 is its advanced control technologies and adaptive systems that allow it to respond effectively to changing environmental conditions. This innovative design ensures optimal performance while enhancing reliability and extending the lifespan of the turbine. By reducing strain from extreme weather conditions, the 4.2M160 offers a consistent power output, making it a robust solution for various markets.

Mr. Amit Kansal, CEO and Managing Director of Senvion India, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “The 4.2M160 epitomizes our relentless pursuit of innovation in wind energy technology. We have engineered this turbine to exceed the expectations of our global customers, ensuring superior performance and reliability in the most challenging environments. Our commitment to a modular design and site-specific adaptations means that this turbine can meet the unique needs at every installation site efficiently”.

The turbine is certified under the IEC RE OD 501 standard, ensuring its adaptability to grid code compliance in India and other international markets. Furthermore, the 4.2M160 is engineered to withstand adverse conditions, such as sand, dust, and high temperatures, making it an agile and versatile option for various geographical locales.

The manufacturing process underscores Senvion’s commitment to local industry, as the company boasts an advanced production capacity of over 1,000 MW, sourcing 85% of the WTG components from Indian suppliers. This approach not only strengthens the local economy but also aligns with India’s broader goals for sustainable development and self-sufficiency in renewable energy production.

Mr. Jamal Wadi, Managing Director of RE Technologies, highlighted the significance of this launch, stating, “The introduction of the 4.2M160 serves as a testament to RE Technologies' commitment to increasing energy production while promoting sustainability and local economic growth. Through an exclusive licensing agreement with Senvion India, we can utilize the fully localized value chain to manufacture and deploy cutting-edge technology that maximizes energy output and minimizes operational costs. This turbine represents an important milestone in our journey to offer our customers superior performance and reliability, tailored to meet the unique needs of each installation site”.

The collaboration between RE Technologies GmbH and Senvion Wind Technology Pvt. Ltd., along with their affiliates in India, marks a significant step forward in the renewable energy sector. The rights over the trademark "SENVION" in India are held by Senvion India, while the trademark is owned by a third party outside of India.
