Serve Robotics is collaborating with DoorDash to launch its sidewalk robots for order fulfillment on the food delivery platform, aiming to attract more customers and broaden its reach beyond Uber Eats.

Shares of the robotics company based in San Francisco skyrocketed over 25 percent during midday trading, reaching their highest point in eight months.

The firm announced that patrons ordering through DoorDash from specific shops and eateries in Los Angeles could receive their orders via a Serve robot, noting its intention to broaden DoorDash delivery throughout the US.

Businesses have progressively embraced automation for final deliveries to lower labor expenses and enhance service speed due to high demand.

The partnership with DoorDash, the leading food delivery service in the nation, will enable Serve to boost the number of orders accessible for its robots by connecting with customers and merchants who prefer DoorDash over Uber's food delivery application.

To date, Serve has utilized its robots for deliveries exclusively on Uber Eats, with which it formed a partnership in 2021.

"This collaboration allows us to enter markets where DoorDash is the leading competitor. With our substantial fleet now in place, we offer a considerable supply for companies... and we are seeking increased demand, ensuring that the robots can access more jobs every minute of every day," states Serve co-founder and CEO Ali Kashani.

The collaboration with DoorDash will enhance Serve's revenues when it grows to a level comparable to the Uber Eats partnership, he noted.

Serve is currently active in cities like Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and Atlanta via Uber Eats and has achieved over 100,000 deliveries from over 2,500 restaurants.
