One of the top cement manufacturers in India, Shree Cement Limited (SCL), has strengthened its rail infrastructure network by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RITES Limited, a Navratna business under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. 

Through this strategic partnership, Shree Cement's manufacturing facilities will be able to expand rail infrastructure and related services, facilitating the more sustainable and effective transportation of both raw materials and completed commodities.

After the date of signing, the agreement is in effect for five years, though it may be extended with both parties' consent.

Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement says “As we expand our manufacturing footprint across India, strengthening our logistics and supply chain infrastructure becomes increasingly critical. Our collaboration with RITES is a strategic step towards creating a more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable transportation system that supports our growth while reducing environmental impact.”

In accordance with the MoU, RITES will provide services from conception to commissioning related to the construction, renovation, and expansion of rail connectivity for the movement of cement, raw materials, and other related materials.

Additionally, RITES will serve as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), offering comprehensive consulting services covering every stage of infrastructure project lifecycle, from feasibility and reconnaissance studies to comprehensive project reports and execution management.

 

As part of its responsibilities, RITES will also help get the required permits for mechanical, overhead electrification, signal and telecom, and civil engineering components from the Ministry of Railways and other pertinent agencies. Additionally, by assessing and verifying the eligibility of executing agencies throughout the tendering process, RITES will assist Shree Cement in choosing a contractor.
