Tata Nexon and Tata Punch are two of the most popular car models introduced by Tata Motors. This brand never disappoints its customers. With these two models gaining immense popularity in a very short time, buyers often find it confusing when it comes to investing in one of them.

Tata Nexon is one of the best-selling compact SUVs in the Indian market. Usually, it is known to offer more space, power and advanced features than micro-SUVs like the Tata Punch.

The Tata Nexon is compact in size but certainly contributes to a stable ride. It has a ground clearance of 208mm, which is excellent for driving on Indian roads. Also, it has an impressive boot capacity of 382 litres for its petrol and diesel variants. Due to the placement of the CNG tanks, the boot space is reduced to 321 litres in the CNG version.

The Punch, with its SUV-like stance, boasts a compact yet robust dimension. This model also offers a stable ride as well as a decent amount of cabin space to accommodate five passengers comfortably. The 366 litres of boot capacity in the petrol variant is spacious enough, but it reduces in the CNG version due to the twin-cylinder setup.

Extra space in Nexon means more room for rear passengers and a few more bags in the back. Punch feels more at home on tight city lanes.

Engine and Driving Performance

Both offer petrol options. Nexon also offers diesel and CNG, which gives flexibility for long drives and lower running costs. The punch also comes with a CNG version. 

• Punch: 1.2L, Revotron Petrol Engine and CNG variants. Mileage of 18 - 20 kmpl (manual/automatic); 26 kmpl (CNG).
• Nexon: 1.2L Turbocharged Revotron Petrol Engine, 1.5L Turbocharged Revotorq Diesel Engine and CNG variants. Mileage between 17–24 kmpl (petrol/diesel/CNG).

Nexon feels more energetic on highways. Punch fits city commutes, quick turns, and daily chores.

Interior Comfort and Tech

Both offer comfortable seating and good build quality, but Nexon usually steps ahead with extras in higher trims.

• Nexon: It has touchscreen infotainment by HARMAN, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charging, and a digital instrument cluster.
• Punch: Digital cluster, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay in upper variants, cooled glovebox, ample storage.

Nexon's higher variants may come with a factory-fitted sunroof, while Punch offers a sunroof only on select models.

Safety: Prioritising Peace of Mind

Safety is not optional anymore. Both get high Global NCAP safety ratings. 

• Nexon: Six airbags standard, bi-function LED headlamps, good crash-test scores.
• Punch: Dual airbags, a 5-star GNCAP safety rating, and built-in safety tech for its segment.

For those carrying families or driving on open highways, extra airbags and features on the Nexon might be a deciding factor.

Running Costs and Maintenance

Running a car in India often comes down to mileage, service costs, and parts availability.

• Punch: Mileage from 18 to 20 kmpl (petrol) and 26 kmpl (CNG); lower average service costs.
• Nexon: Mileage between 17–24 kmpl (engine dependent); similar service costs.

The Nexon's CNG option is new, but both cars aim to keep bills smaller with competitive maintenance packages and wide service networks.
