Stellantis India Hits 50,000 Vehicles Milestone at TN Plant

Stellantis India announced the production of its 50,000th vehicle at its cutting-edge manufacturing plant in Thiruvallur, signifying a noteworthy milestone in the company’s expansion within the Indian market.

This accomplishment signifies the triumph of Stellantis’ Smart Car platform, which was developed in India for the domestic market and internationally, with development and industrialization spearheaded by Indian research and development teams.

The platform is extensively utilized in vehicle development across Europe, South America, and Asia, highlighting India’s increasing prominence as a hub of engineering excellence within Stellantis’ global framework.

The vehicles produced on the Smart Car platform at the Thiruvallur facility serve the Indian market as well as select international regions, including Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, thereby enhancing Tamil Nadu’s status as a competitive and export-oriented automotive manufacturing center. This milestone underscores the plant’s operational excellence, manufacturing flexibility, and growing contribution to Stellantis’ global supply chain.

Since its inception, the Thiruvallur facility has significantly contributed to regional economic growth by creating over 1,100 direct jobs and supporting thousands of indirect employment opportunities through its suppliers, logistics partners, and associated industries in and around Chennai. The plant has also been instrumental in developing a robust local vendor network, in line with the Government of Tamil Nadu’s objective to strengthen industrial infrastructure and generate employment.

The facility consistently maintains high standards of quality and efficiency, achieved through strong localization efforts under the Make in India initiative and the adoption of advanced, sustainable manufacturing practices.

 

Building upon this significant achievement, Stellantis India announced its ongoing commitment to enhancing production capabilities, increasing export volumes, and launching products from its Indian facilities that are competitive on a global scale. The Thiruvallur plant will continue to play a pivotal role in these objectives, catering to both current and forthcoming mobility solutions.

The globally renowned company is celebrated for its distinctive array of iconic and innovative brands, such as Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, FIAT, Jeep®, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall, Free2move, and Leasys.

Stellantis is actively implementing its ambitious strategic plan, Dare Forward 2030, charting a course toward the goal of becoming a carbon net-zero mobility technology enterprise by 2038, with only single-digit percentage carbon offsetting of residual emissions, all the while generating added value for its stakeholders.

In the previous year, the company announced its intention to introduce Leapmotor's global lineup of electric vehicles to India, marking a pivotal advancement in its commitment to pioneering the future of mobility.

The introduction of the Leapmotor brand into the market aligns with Stellantis's aspiration to drive innovation and broaden its electric vehicle presence in one of the world's most rapidly expanding automotive sectors. Leapmotor's focus on low-carbon mobility aligns with Stellantis's strategy, placing sustainability at the forefront. By 2024, Leapmotor delivered almost 300,000 vehicles, effectively doubling its growth compared to the previous year.
