In a new top-level shakeup at the Tata group, Naveen Tahilyani, who was the CEO and MD of Tata Digital, has resigned only a year after assuming the role in February 2024.

His sudden departure highlights the conglomerate’s ongoing difficulty in securing stable leadership for its digital initiatives, especially concerning the Tata Neu superapp, which has experienced various business shifts since its debut and still encounters obstacles in achieving significant traction.

Naveen, recruited from Tata AIA Life Insurance following CEO Pratik Pal's departure, started an overhaul of the digital unit’s leadership and strategic focus during his brief tenure.

Under his leadership, the company reoriented its emphasis towards Tata-owned brands like the electronics platform Croma and the fashion marketplace Tata Cliq, while also aiming for enhanced consistency across portfolio companies such as e-grocer BigBasket and digital pharmacy 1mg.

His exit occurs as the salt-to-software giant is still working to stabilize its digital commerce strategy and match the pace of competitors in the fiercely competitive online retail and fintech markets.

UK-based life insurer Prudential plc declared the appointment of Tahilyani as regional CEO responsible for India, Africa, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, also overseeing the health sector.

I firmly believe Naveen is the ideal leader in the perfect position to create the impact we require.
