Just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the electric vehicle company has begun recruiting in India, signaling that its much-anticipated entry into the market could be approaching soon.

Tesla has listed 13 job openings on its LinkedIn page in Mumbai and Delhi, covering customer service, advisory, and back-end positions.

At least five key positions, including service technician and advisory roles, are available in both Mumbai and Delhi. Other positions, such as customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist, are currently listed only for Mumbai.

The job vacancies posted by Tesla include, Inside Sales Advisor, Customer Support Supervisor, Customer Support Specialist, Service Advisor, Order Operations Specialist, Service Manager, Tesla Advisor, Parts Advisor, Business Operations Analyst, Store Manager, Service Technician.

Tesla has been eyeing the Indian market for some time, but its plans were delayed reportedly due to disagreements over tariffs and policy concerns. Last year, Musk even canceled a scheduled visit to India at the last moment.

However, the Indian government’s recent decision to reduce the basic customs duty on luxury EVs priced above USD 40,000 from 110% to 70% appears to have cleared a major hurdle for Tesla’s entry.

Although Tesla has not yet made an official announcement, its hiring activity strongly indicates plans to launch operations in India. It remains uncertain whether the company will start by importing vehicles or set up a local manufacturing facility.

Nevertheless, with recruitment already in progress, Tesla's long-awaited entry into India appears to be just around the corner.
